Nilkanth takes its name from Sanskrit Nīlakaṇṭha (नीलकण्ठ), meaning “blue-throated”—an epithet of Shiva that carries the story behind this hoodie. Source🔗

During Samudra Manthan, the churning of the ocean, the deadly poison Halahala emerged. Shiva drank it to protect living beings, and the poison marked his throat blue. This act of compassion forms the foundation of Nilkanth. Source🔗

“Shambhu” adds another layer. Written along the hood, this name of Shiva is associated with bringing happiness and welfare—a quiet connection to the compassion at the heart of the story. Source🔗
